Colindale Primary School

The Romans constructed the original Roman road that led north from London roughly 2000 years ago. Later, this was referred to as Watling Street. Near Colindale School, the road's foundations can still be seen beneath Edgware Road. Before the 1930s, Colindale was largely agricultural terrain. The Hendon Aerodrome, which is located on what is now the Grahame Park Estate, was built by Claude Grahame-White in 1911. Later, it was sold to the Royal Air Force, who utilised it in both World Wars I and II. On the same spot, a replica of Grahame-factory White's interior may be found in the RAF Museum. The London Underground's expansion in the 1930s carried the suburbs all the way out to Colindale. In order to accommodate the area's sudden population increase, Colindale School was also constructed at the same time as new homes. The airfield that Claude Grahame-White created was symbolised by the wings on the former school's logo. Bomb shelters were once located at the base of the athletic fields until the 1960s. During World War II (1939–1945), these bunkers were used by students and teachers. The playing fields of the old school were used to construct the new school in 2011. With Colindale's population soaring, the previous school had become inadequate. The old school was destroyed in December 2011 and new outdoor spaces were built. Colindale is only 40 minutes away from the city centre. It has been a popular residential area for people from all over the world and we have as many as 40 different mother tongues spoken by children in our school.
