At Cathedral School, we want to ignite in young people a passion for history and the lessons it can teach us.
Children are urged to study historical facts, but also to think about how those events affected the individuals who lived through them and how they affect us today.
We use a variety of artefacts, books, and field trips to places like the Tower of London, the Imperial War Museum, Hampton Court Palace, the Churchill war chambers, and Kensington Palace to bring history to life and ensure that kids feel truly linked to the past.
Children can learn about local history by attending events at places like Southwark Cathedral and the Old Vic Theatre, for instance.
Reading historical fiction and conducting non-fiction research have a close connection to literacy.
German shouts awakened Peter up from his sleep in the adjacent room.
It was secure.
"In history class this semester, we are studying the Tower of London.
William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings in 1066 were topics of discussion this week.
Soon later, in 1078, the first section of the Tower was constructed.
William the Conqueror's builders received messages from us directing them to construct his fortress.
I want to keep those pesky little London pests out, so please construct me a fortress.
It should be erected in London, close to the water.
The White Tower, a castle, must exist within the fortifications.
I want to have a castle constructed nearby London.
I want those scumbags in London to believe that I'm a capable ruler.
Students who have a top-notch history education will be better able to comprehend both the past of Britain and the rest of the world.
It ought to pique students' interest in learning more about the past.
