From the Burnside College
Over the past century, Burnside has gone by a variety of names.
The Wallsend County Technical School was officially inaugurated on July 15, 1960, by the Chairman of Parsons.
This new structure was erected to the same plot of land as the current Grammar School (seen in the photo at bottom left).
The school's original plans were for 660 students starting at the age of eleven and included sixth-form subject options.
The post-war "Baby-Boom" had an impact on the technical college's construction, as it did in other sectors.
The school was renamed Burnside High School on September 3, 1969, and included the existing structures of the old Grammer and Technical schools.
The Technical School, Central Secondary School, and Western Secondary School combined to form a comprehensive high school for pupils ages 13 to 18.
Kajima, a Japanese construction company, started work on a new school on the same site at the same time.
A significant decrease from the 280,000 it cost to construct the former Technical School in 1960, the entire project came in at roughly 15 million.
Burnside Business & Enterprise College took up residence in a new structure on the site of the Annex and Main Buildings in September 2004.

Burnside College Reviews
3 (1 review)
There seems to be a disproportionate balance of priorities at Burnside. There is huge importance based on uniform and attendance (less than 96% is deemed poor) but very little importance based on development and welfare. It seems this is something too difficult to achieve. Teachers struggle to control classes and the use of teacher generated ‘concerns’ is overused to gain compliance and order in every situation. It seems the teachers struggle to converse and motivate...
