From the Bridstow CofE Primary School
As a Church of England school, our goal was to offer instruction in a Christian setting. Staff members who are devout Christians guide the school's spiritual life, which is also strengthened by frequent clergy visits and school services held at St. Bridget's Church. Children thus receive a religious education that is tied to Church of England service and doctrine. We do this so that kids can learn about Christian beliefs and, if they desire, develop a religion that they can live by. The school badge is that of St Bridget (or St Bride) of Kildare, after whom our village of Bridstow - "The Place of St Bride" - is named. According to legend, the nuns of the convent that St. Bridget built maintained a fire going in her honour, giving rise to the lamp's symbol. However, it can be assumed that this symbol alludes to her excellent deeds and that Kildare is symbolised by the oak wreath. Since her preferred colour was white, the badge frequently features a lamp and a wreath on a white background. Learn more about St. Bridget here. We also recognise the need to have a deep understanding of other faiths in our world community, and so consider the beliefs and practices of those from other cultures at all stages of our RE work.
