From the The Autism Project - CareTrade
CareTrade fervently believes that every young person should be given the chance to realise their potential and live happy lives. Over 8,000 school-age children, or 1 in 100, are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder each year; 800 of these children live in London. Currently, just 15% of all adults with autism work, less than 25% continue their education, and only 4% become self-sufficient. There is evidence that many, many more of these young people could and would like to work and participate actively in their communities with the proper support. Those whose autism prevents them from becoming fully autonomous also require additional options and chances in order to lead satisfying lives. The founders of CareTrade, Katharine Dore OBE and Karen Edwards, were founders and trustees of Ambitious about Autism and both are parents of teenage sons with autism. We have worked with more than 90 young Londoners with autism since the beginning of our first pilot programme in January 2010. This is only the start. To create and provide solutions for autism, we need your assistance.
