At Ashington CE School, collective worship is an essential component of daily life in the classroom. Every day, the kids take part in group worship, and they also pray as a class before lunch. Christian values serve as inspiration for worship themes, with a new value being examined every six weeks. We focused on the values of respect and reverence last semester, and this semester we are focusing on the virtue of truth. Every teacher frequently participates in worship, which is led by the headteacher twice a week. Our music and RE leader teaches praise songs to all of the kids. Our kids can design and lead all or a portion of a group worship as worship leaders. We often have guests conducting worship to expose the kids to Christian leaders and traditions. This term Reverend James the Rector at our Parish Church will lead worship, as will SPLASH and also visitors: Jo Jackson from Dalesdown Christian Centre, Reverend Peter Butcher, Baptist Minister at Upper Beeding and Michelle Quibell, a parishioner here in Ashington. Every classroom provides a quiet area for reflection where students can pray or take some time to consider important issues like their own spirituality, relationships, or life's major concerns. In our main library area, we also have a Prayer Bear and a Prayer box where kids can write their own prayers. For images of each class's current reflection space, please visit the class page on the website. We also encourage friends from different faiths to come speak to us at assemblies about their faith in order to make sure that all of our kids are aware of and respect differences both within the church and other communities of faith. This is covered in the kids' religious education.
