195 students in grades 4 through 19 attend the coed special school known as Birkett House School. The learning demands of students range from severe and numerous learning disabilities to a moderate disability. The school is distinctive in that it is a true community with three sites, allowing us to offer a very specialised and individualised education and a wider range of options. In September 2017, the main site moved to a cutting-edge, purpose-built facility. The bulk of the elementary kids as well as older students whose primary learning need is sensory are located at the school's main campus in Wigston. This is due to the location of the hydrotherapy pool and multisensory rooms. We take great satisfaction in working with our most challenging students and forming solid alliances with parents, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. Pupil's needs are provided for in such a holistic way that learning, physio, care and medical needs are integrated seamlessly into a complete holistic program for each individual. At each of our locations, Birkett House employs every employee. For two sets of Key Stage 3 students, the Thomas Estley Community College-based Center serves as an excellent hub for inclusion and expanded opportunity. On the campus of Countesthorpe Community College is where our Senior Department is located. We highly encourage interactions with parents and carers because we recognise that they will always be the ones who know their child or children the best. You are welcome at any time as the entire institution operates under a "Open Door Policy." All facets of a student's learning and development must be successful through collaboration with parents.
