West Acre Montessori School

Westacre Montessori School has been providing the community of Westacre with high-quality pre-schooling for nearly 40 years.
With assistance from her husband Henry, Garlinda Birkbeck founded the school in 1982.
It established Norfolk's first Montessori institution.
When Sue left in 1986, Rose Charman, her assistant and a fellow AMI graduate, took over as head of the school and Garlinda's business partner.
Rose oversaw the move to The Old Chapel in East Walton in 2002, and ran the school and business successfully until her retirement in 2010, when she handed both over to her long-term assistant Rosie Reynolds, also AMI qualified.
The Old Chapel, situated on the common in East Walton, an ideal rural setting, is where Westacre Montessori School is housed.
We have one huge, wide room that can hold up to 24 kids.
The large space allows the children to share the wide range of Montessori materials, enabling them to discover, learn and explore at their own pace.
Everything is set up to provide them challenges and broaden their knowledge and skills.
Working independently, with friends, or with a teacher allows the kids to develop their social and self-esteem.
