At Upperthorpe Nursery, we place a great priority on offering the children in our care a joyful, carefree, and secure atmosphere where play, fun, and enjoyment go hand in hand with learning and exploration.
Childcare for children from birth to age 11 that is available full-time, part-time, or on occasion.
Free early education for children ages 2, 3, and 4 for up to 15 hours a week.
Built in 1868, the grand Victorian home known as Upperthorpe is an excellent illustration of the style's construction.
William Cudworth, a well-known civil engineer and devoted Quaker, lived at Upperthorpe with his wife Mary and their employees downstairs.
Upperthorpe appears to have been abandoned after Ms. Jefferys left until 1948, when it was used for mysterious military operations.
The Health Authority leased Upperthorpe in 1993, and it was thereafter used as South Durham Health Care's administrative centre.
When businessman Mike Odysseas bought the structure in July 2013, he started a substantial yet sympathetic refurbishment to bring it farther into the twenty-first century.
The building's current occupants are Upperthorpe Nursery, which provides daycare and overnight care for kids from 3 months to 11 years old as a result of the refurbishment.
Within the West End Conservation Area, Upperthorpe is the final surviving specimen of Victorian architecture. Its striking architecture has remained untouched for more than 150 years and serves a variety of purposes.
