The Simon Langton School For Boys

Our five school buildings are named after five of the boys who lost their lives in the First World War: Burgess, Hardman, Mackenzie, Sharp, and Young.
He made two attempts to rejoin his previous regiment before seizing the chance to enlist with the Kings African Rifles just before they left for Africa.
When his troops subsequently advanced, they discovered him after shooting him in the head and shoulder.
Philip Mortlock Young enrolled in the school in 1903, and his obituary in the student newspaper, The Langtonian, is a testament to the lasting impression he made on everyone in his path. Both teachers and students regarded him as a young man who was extraordinarily gifted in mind and body, but most importantly in character.
Young received praise for his leadership during his stay at the school; he served as Head Boy in 1908, was awarded the Payne Smith Medal, and served as the first Prefect of the Pink House at the start of the original House system.
