The Grange is a lovely Victorian structure with many amenities that is owned by and used for the benefit of the community.
Parking spaces are plentiful, and there is access for those with impairments.
With family or friends, you may unwind and enjoy a drink in the spectacular Grange Bar.
Thomas William Tew, a Pontefract banker, historian, philanthropist, and Freemason, built the Carleton Grange in 1874.
The Grange Community Center first opened its doors about 75 years ago.
through the efforts of a "Ways & Means Committee" that was established with the goal of finding space for a Center.
They bought Carleton Grange and gave it to them.
The Carleton Community Association was subsequently established as a result.
Four months after the initial public meeting, a constitution was drafted, accepted, and the Carleton Community Centre—the first facility of its kind in the West Riding—opened its doors in January 1946.
The Tew family's crests—hers on a lozenge and his in a square stone frame—are depicted on pottery tiles placed into the brickwork on the side of the house where the original front entrance once stood.
A stylish staircase and exquisitely carved oak balustrades are present.
The armorial bearings of four successive generations of Tews, along with those of their respective wives, are shown in the window that illuminates the stairway.
The plaster and woodwork of the entire home include the heraldic motifs found in this window.
In 2005, the building's new entrance, which provides access for those with impairments, was opened.
