With the establishment of a Jesuit Mission in Lowestoft in 1867, modern Catholic life began; the Parish followed in 1881.
Masses were initially said under a fishing net loft, but in 1899 construction on the current church could begin because of fundraising efforts and donations.
In June of 1902, Our Lady's Church welcomed visitors.
