Following efforts to switch from a fossil fuel-based heat source to a new low-carbon substitute, the centre will start running with zero carbon emissions on Monday, June 27.
The Wiltshire Council has been working on a schedule of projects across many of its facilities to cut the energy consumed in those buildings in order to meet our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Additionally, these improvements will minimise carbon emissions and energy costs. Our most recent news release has further information about the entire programme.
A subsidy from the government's Public Sector Decarbonization Scheme was given to the council, and it was used to build a new, low-emission heating system at Springfield Community Campus as well as purchase solar panels to generate clean power.
The centre will soon be free of the need for fossil fuel heating, and thanks to the green power rate that the council has secured, it will be able to report zero carbon emissions.
