The government defined British Values in the Prevent Strategy of 2011 and incorporated it to the Ofsted inspection guidance in July 2014. These ideals are consistently promoted at Shepton Mallet Community Infants School & Nursery through excellent instruction, a well-rounded assembly schedule, and a supportive behaviour policy.
Through the development of students' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) aspects, fundamental British values are also emphasised.
This offers students the chance to acquire and exhibit the attitudes and abilities necessary to properly engage in and make a good contribution to modern British life.
Students are continuously taught to distinguish between good and wrong from Nursery through Year 2, and this, coupled with their growing maturity, helps them apply their understanding of these principles in their daily lives.
Through this, Shepton Mallet Community Infants School & Nursery continuously spreads the word about our excellent standards for everyone.
All children are expected to abide by our Golden Rules.
We constantly remind kids of our high standards for them.
Children are taught the importance of following rules and the reasons behind them, including that rules are in place to protect us, that everyone has a responsibility, and that breaking rules has repercussions.
It makes a clear connection between right and bad behaviour and, as a result, to England's civil and criminal laws.
Our behaviour policy also provides a fantastic venue for staff to examine the decisions that students make regarding their behaviour in school, both good and bad.
We emphasise the value of online safety through e-safety lessons.
Mutual regard is the cornerstone of our school's overall philosophy, and we see respect for others as an essential part of moral development.
We are an inclusive school where everyone is respected and has something to offer the community.
The impact of their actions on both their own and other people's rights is something that children learn.
We want to encourage respect for and understanding of all religions and cultures both inside our school and in the larger community.
Our curriculum includes teaching and learning opportunities for kids to learn about the outside world and develop an understanding of cultural variety, including with festivals, Divali, and Chinese New Year, for example.
The RE curriculum is also carefully designed to give kids the knowledge they need to comprehend the variety of views held by people.
We assist them in appreciating, respecting, and understanding diversity.
