Rough Common Pre-School

The Village Hall of Rough Common, Canterbury, serves as the home of Rough Common Pre-School.
All children are welcome here, and that is our goal.
We design our environment and our lessons around the needs and interests of the kids, making sure they advance through the Early Years Foundation Stage's learning and development domains.
Throughout each session, we provide a thoughtfully curated blend of child-led play and adult-led activities.
The kids are urged to participate in both small- and big-group activities.
Our grounds, which are adjacent to the hall, are open to everyone, and the kids can select where they want to play.
Additionally, we use the nearby grounds and the playing field for outdoor learning activities.
Via quality staff interactions and learning through play, children can grow at their own rate while also developing their creativity, imagination, physical abilities, self-confidence, and self-esteem. This secures the foundations for lifetime learning and development.
To do this, we use a cycle of planning known as "in the moment planning," which has a strong foundation in research in the Early Years and has been further expanded by Anna Ephgrave.
The adults' job is to observe what the kids are doing from a distance, determine what they need to learn, do, or know next, and make immediate, on-the-spot plans for their lessons. The kids have free access to all sections of the environment.
