To ensure that students graduate from school ready for life in contemporary Britain, the Department for Education published recommendations on promoting British values in schools today, November 27, 2014.
The advice intends to aid independent and state-maintained schools in comprehending their obligations in this regard.
Everyone has a responsibility to actively advance the core British principles of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect for and tolerance of people of all religions and ideologies.
The government initially outlined these principles in the Prevent plan in 2011.
Since the beginning of the year, all schools have been obliged to have a clear strategy for ingraining these principles and demonstrate how their work with students has been successful in doing so. Up until now, schools have just been required to respect these values.
The fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect for people of all religions and beliefs should be taught in every school.
Additionally, the government released today its preliminary answer to a consultation on the updated Independent Schools Standards (ISS).
