Through ensuring pupils SMSC development, schools can also demonstrate they are actively promoting fundamental British values. (Nov 2014). Students elect two members of the school council each year.
A democratic voting procedure is used to do this, and students are given the chance to express or write their motivations for applying for the position.

At Westdene Primary school, we develop self-esteem, self-confidence and self-knowledge through the language of growth mindset and the use of our learning animals.
Through e-safety and PSHE lessons, pupils are consistently encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely.
We actively encourage diversity via our appreciation of and understanding of various cultures and religions.
Religious Education lessons, PSHE lessons and assemblies reinforce messages of tolerance, understanding and respect for others.
