Great school. My daughter has really thrived there. It is very sad that a small few are trying to bring a good school down by ridiculous reviews.
Excellent school my daughter has thrived here since leaving primary. Great teachers, some of the other reviews are absolutely ridiculous and really distressing for the teachers and those involved! Couldn’t recommend this school enough please don’t listen to the one star reviews!!
Complaints system a complete waste of time! Nothing is done! Governors are lied to and smoked screen and/or personal friends of management so all swept under a rug.
Rubbish school teachers bully students and most of pupils spend more time in isolation than in class as teachers can’t be bothered teaching.
I’m hear to talk about the 1 star reviews and I have to say they are absolutely disgraceful I’m a heart space student and teachers in mainstream are really nice and they care about everyone and want them to thrive and achieve and succeed in all there subjects I find it absolutely disgraceful that people are talking about a head teachers wife like that it’s absolutely not necessary I’ve seen certain teachers get distressed over...
Don't give support to my child when we have asked on numerous occasions. Lied to us about things that's gone off in school. Accused my child of steel then turned out not to be them but never even got an apology.
A school that works children hard to ensure they achieve. An academic school with futures at the heart of what they do. I have had 5 children here and all have thrived after they have left. Any needs were cared for and supported.
It is unbelievable the amount of awful personal attacks on here! Go through the right channels if you have an issue with something! The teachers are human beings and yes they may not get everything right all the time, but that is why the school has policies and procedures to follow. My child is happy at PGS, she has nothing but good things to say about the teachers who support her. They put on incredible...
As a parent of a pupil who attends the heartspace provision but takes a lot of lessons in mainstream I wouldn't recommend this school . Heartspace pupils are made to feel like they are inadequate and weird. They are bullied and very little is done . Most of the Heartspace staff really don't care and are false, other pupils are given more help and nurturing while your child suffers in silence and if they try to...
Absolutely awful school especially for children that are SEND! they completely ignored the needs and the parents concerns over and over again ,they agreed to put support in place in meetings with the SENCO but this never happened, causing my children distress to the point we had to seek medical advice over the mental state and anxiety ... there's lots of families going through similar situation at pgs it's not a one off accurance
I am very happy with the school. My son is helped by the staff and feels cared for. His needs are looked after. The teachers work really hard and do more for the children than in other schools.
My son has thrived at PGS. h He left primary school in a difficult place not enjoying school and I would of been delighted for him just to achieve average at any subject. We have now far exceeded that and look forward to seeing him go into higher education because he now wants to. Thank you PGS.
The teachers are there for the kids! They listen, they are understanding of my child's need and make adaptations for them if needed. Heartspace is an incredible provision, I genuinely do not know where my child would be if it werent for Heartspace, across the borough i expect!
I’ve had 4 children at PGS, 1 is currently still there and one is in Post 16. They are all very different and have different academic abilities, however the staff at PGS have been amazing at bringing out the best in each of my children and I can’t praise them enough for this. We made the best decision ever many moons ago, choosing this area to live in order to get our children into the...
A wonderful school with a great ethos and community. They offer a wide range of extracurricular activities and take care to support each child as an individual.
At first I thought everything was great but they tell you all these things will be in place and when you ask your child if they’ve had their interventions / any appointments nothing ever happens! I’ve been told it’s due to staff leaving, staff absence or change in staff roles but this is happening frequently which can’t be a good sign of high quality happy staff. My child tells me it’s well known Mrs Crook...
Poor communication, seem to be more bothered about reputation and circulating social media post than the actual children! It’s sad that it’s come to this! Let’s hope more might listen now before something serious happens!
I just want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to PGS for the incredible support and care they have shown in helping our child transition back to a full timetable after several months away last year due to crippling anxiety. The entire teams dedication, patience, and commitment to my childs wellbeing has made a world of difference to not only our child but also our family. It’s disheartening to see unfair and...
Excellent school. Our son is thriving here. Over the last five years we have seen the school go from strength to strength. When our son started in year 7 we did think it was a little dated in some of its areas but I have to say over the last few years it has really improved. The staff are all approachable and our son has a great rapport with them. Whenever we have had an...
Penistone Grammar School supports all its students to full extent, the teachers are all lovely and the school is ran brilliantly. It applies high safety measures to ensure student safety and creates an amazing environment to work in.
I love school! My mum has just showed me some comments on a horrible Facebook group. This makes me sad as my school is brilliant. All my teachers are nice but want to do a big shout out to Mrs Crook, Miss Schofeild and the HeartSpace teams they are the nicest humans in the world and have made me a happy confident person. The lessons in school are sometimes hard but you also get the...
Communication is appalling. I have actually never known a school to hire so many people in relationships or marriages which is completely bias and unprofessional in my opinion. Questionable actions from the school including forcing children to hand over their phones and unlock them for "searches" (ironically decided by a married couple as to what constitutes the need to search) definitely wouldn't reccomend which is a shame as it seemed like a great school.
Great School my child started this year and is neurodivergent the support she has received is brilliant and grown amazingly since September - recent Facebook posts by Barnsley Send really are unfair and in my opinion give a unbalanced view and should be investigated not in the public domain until proven true! Really not fair to teachers & pupils many living in our community who this effects ! I do wonder about motives of page...
As a previous student at this school, I find it disappointing that this school is still going downhill and not prioritising their students wellbeing. Teachers wearing inappropriate clothes throughout the year yet students are having uniform changes as their uniform is ‘inappropriate’ to staff members. Teacher relationships are flaunted around the school which is highly unprofessional. The school always prioritised punishing students instead of helping and caring for them which clearly is still the case....
i don’t enjoy school one bit, the only thing i enjoy is socialising with my friends (when we don’t get told off) i enjoy being in some off my lessons but it’s mainly the teachers that make you feel unhappy about lessons. Teachers say they care about our mental health and say we can talk to them but whenever we need to talk to them they are “busy” or don’t care, they do make u...
A bright child failed spectacularly by this establishment. A slight disability with medical evidence supplied then repeatedly denied all support and reasonable adjustments . This school failed to educate and let my child down, and then actually caused injury, which they denied despite evidence. Child removed in order to salvage and provide other education which they weren't doing, heads in the sand and could not have cared less. This school and its management are severely...
Unfortunately like the other concerns raised by parents of children with SEND, I am also finding the lack of consistency, communication and understanding of need, has significantly impacted on my child. The legal framework both in the CoP, single equality act and the Children and families act are there to ensure that educational provisions work with parents to meet the child's needs. Therefore, it is disappointing that the SENDCo actively disengages with parents, and is...
A very caring school where staff do so much for the children. A small amount of pupils come from homes where they are allowed to misbehave and this comes out in school so teachers get sworn at and treated bad. My son has told me how this happens but teachers deal with it and carry on. I am very happy with this school for my son.
Great school where children are encouraged to learn. Those that put the effort in, flourish. Disruptive kids are dealt with fairly. Staff are approachable and friendly.
SEND department are amazing. Contact us every week to check we're ok and see if they can support with anything. Our lad really struggles without the a variety of issues, but they couldn't support us more. Staff are dedicated and diligent, approachable and kind. We couldn't be happier with the school.
Wonderful school , caring approachable teachers , respectable students . Has strong community feel . Heartspace is amazing given our son opportunities and personal development support to enable him to achieve the best he can.
My child is a SEND pupil. I personally have found that any support they need has been given, yes we’ve had a few issues but they have been sorted out promptly. My child has thrived at PGS, they have gone from not having any friends to having a fabulous group of friends. I’ve always had support as a parent. I have another child on the pathway and I fully believe that PGS will support them...
My son started PGS in September and has settled in fantastic he struggles in social situations but since starting has made new friends and coming out of his shell, the communication I’ve had with school have been helpful and supportive, the only bad thing is the amount of homework, it does cause him a lot of stress as he’s worried about getting lines for not completing. Other than that I can’t see any fault and...
My child has thrived since attending PGS, he is where he needs to be and the staff have been exceptional in supporting him and us as parents throughout his journey…!
My son who is in Heartspace has thrived, the staff are amazing, weekly contact from his keyworker to advise of progress, ehcp reviewed every year with invites sent to relevant individuals, always available to discuss any questions.
Our child in Y8 is really happy at PGS and is making great progress, despite having to have some time off due to a chronic health condition. We have always felt really well supported by the school. We can't think of anything that could have been handled any better up until this point. In our experience we really do feel that the staff work very hard to achieve the best for the students in the...
SEN department. Year of just trying to get the EHCP implemented properly and the best for our child. Have been met with a complete lack of understanding of the processes, actions not completed and unfortunately broken promise after broken promise. The internal messages that are given are very different to the reality of situations. The unwillingness to objectively look at what is happening when the data clearly shows things are working is a real barrier...
Both my older children attend PGS and have overall had a wonderful experience. When we have had problems they have been managed and solved appropriately. They both struggled with there mental health ant various times after Covid and were supported through this with reduced timetables, counselling and support from heads of year as well as the pastoral team. Their SEN needs have also always been cared for with check ins from the senco, we’ve had...
As a parent of a SEN child i feel the school needs to make some serious adjustments, their unflexible approach and uneducated staff have left my child at autistic burnout leading to school refusal, if they had listened to my cry for help which went on for months this could have been prevented however school seem to think one size fits all and if your child doesn't fit in that box unfortunately they don't care
I have a yr 9 student with dyslexia and the open communication and initiatives takgn to help support her are excellent. As is life, everything cannot be perfect all the time and more continuity of staff in subjects would be the ideal. However I have found the efforts made by staff and supports at all levels to be very good. They have an open communication policy which I find very useful when there has been...
Fantastic school, any issues and staff are always so helpful and genuinely look out for the children.
My children are supported and well educated at this school the staff work hard to help my children with the subject matter and when I read the work produced I know what it’s about ,’y children are not the most academic children but they enjoy and understand the lessons and that’s down to hard working staff and senior leadership , even when I have issues they are addressed professionally and promptly thank you PGS
Both of my children have thrived and continue to thrive from their wonderful education and further experiences provided by this outstanding school. So many of the staff go above and beyond to provide amazing opportunities and a superb education. The detailed newsletters are super in keeping parents updated and the children use teams well to manage their own learning. My children are very happy and feel safe being at this school. Thank you to all...
My child has done well in school and has been supported throughout. This is a good school with good teachers.
Excellent school my daughter really enjoys it. The teachers are very supportive and the school is great for sport
2 children at this school. No issues. Teachers are always pleasant and engaging. Both our kids love this school
School leaders simply do not understand the need of send pupils and how to implement sen support and EHCPs. they refuse to train their team in inclusive practice, Appointing a SENCO with zero skill set and empathy for those who struggle. PGS is happy with children who are underachieving of SEN Pupils and only advocate for the higher attainers . They encourage teachers to scream and shout at kids and refuse to apply trauma informs...
Caused my son lots of trauma, they failed to put any support in place for his SEND and then lied about it absolutely disgraceful
My child is in Y10. They have had time off school to poor mental health. School were beyond helpful. Partial timetables, pastoral support, councillor support, absence authorised for counselling sessions and regular check ins. Teaching assistant go above and beyond for my son. He is in the Heartspace department. Follow his EHCP, good and fast response to issues. Any fall outs and issues dealt with appropriately and with haste. Cannot prise the school and staff...
The teaching at the school is excellent, the staff really care for the students and will get the best from them, the SLT run the school well and always want the students to do well and have their best interests at heart. The school offers a great range of subjects and children love to attend There are a few children who don't want to attend school and they cause many issues within the school, but...
A great school where children, especially those who work hard, flourish. There are many opportunities, although these could be communicated better. The staff, including the head, are friendly and approachable.
Fails to follow their own school policies, bias with regards to safeguarding, inappropriate suggestions to children by the safeguarding lead. Board of Governors are also complicit.
Absolutely apalling school. Actively discriminating against pupils with SEND in their Heartspace provision. Abuse of students by staff. Issues covered up and records falsified. Completely incompetent, poorly trained staff who do not care about the children. Inadequate safeguarding procedures. Do not deliver the provision in a child's EHCP. Simply awful.
The school is run by a power struck husband and wife making their own rules as they go along! Governors as bad all in it together!! Want happy kids? Keep them away from this school
Ran by a pair of ego centred husband & wife narcissists who cover up failures and put kids including disabled kids at risk. They do not care. Done nice staff, who are stuck in that hell of a place. Do not send your kids here
The teaching is outstanding and I think it is really underapreciated some teachers are hell but overall a great school!
Unfortunately PGS may appear on the surface to be excellent with their results. But this school is in one of the most affluent areas of the region with students attending mostly from well off backgrounds. The results are not indicative of the standard of how the school is operated. With ongoing growing complaints and significant SEN failures, including GDPR data breaches yourself by the ICO, there is overwhelming growing evidence of cover ups and corruption...
Absolutely fails to support SEN students. Lead by a SLT who don’t care and are stuck with a Tory workhouse mentality. If your child has any kind of additional need; adhd, autistic, trauma, neurodivergent DONT SEND THEM HERE. It’s a death wish!
