Three words that best describe our ethos are effort, encouragement, and excellence.
Our main goal is to make our school a place that both students and staff enjoy going to.
They should go to school confident that the teachers will support their learning through a variety of techniques and approaches, and that the curriculum is stimulating, demanding, and varied—from the effort the students put into their work to the mistakes they will unavoidably make to the encouragement we offer through constructive criticism and marking.
Lastly, it goes without saying that we strive to achieve excellence in all spheres, from the intellectual to the pastoral.
Children must understand that their school has boundaries for what is and is not appropriate behaviour. To achieve this, a code of conduct must be developed, which must be understood by all students and frequently referenced to by staff.
The basic tenet of the code will be to model care, courtesy, and regard for others and to treat others as one would like to be treated. This includes encouraging and ultimately expecting mutual respect for other children, for adults, and for their property.
Every employee, teaching or not, should believe that the other employees regard and appreciate their contribution to achieving these goals.
Every member of the faculty should inspire students to care for the school's resources, the facility, and the area around it.
In order for children to graduate from Hartford as willing and capable learners who are self-disciplined, self-motivated, and well-prepared for the next stage of their education, we hope they will recognise the value of their school and of education in general.
At Hartford, we are committed to fostering each child's academic and social growth as well as their sense of security, self-worth, independence, and responsibility.
