The basic British principles of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect for people of all religions and beliefs must be promoted in all schools, according to the DfE, which has lately reaffirmed the necessity of doing so.
to teach students how to recognise right from wrong and how to respect British civil and criminal law;.
To inspire students to take ownership of their actions, exercise initiative, and recognise how their actions can make a positive difference in the lives of those who live and work in the community surrounding the school as well as in society at large.
enabling students to get a thorough understanding of and respect for public services and institutions in Britain;
to promote cultural peace and tolerance by enabling students to develop an understanding of and respect for both their own and other cultures;
to promote respect for democracy and support for taking part in democratic processes, particularly respect for the principles that underpin how British legislation is created and applied.
Through their history-based unit on Ancient Greece, Year 5 students in particular study the idea of democracy as a concept.
Students at JLPS gain knowledge of right and wrong throughout the school.
They participate in creating their own class rules each year and are reminded of the expectations both they and the school have of one another in order to maximise learning.
This is accomplished through giving students opportunities to experience cultural variety and by helping them better comprehend their place in a diverse society.
These chances are provided by learning about a wide variety of religions in RE and PSHE, which also supports conversations about bias.
We take pride in ensuring that we show inclusivity in everything we do, as evidenced by the Inclusion Quality Mark and Center of Excellence awards.
Through the planned learning opportunities within the major themes of Understanding the World and Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, children in reception start to improve their understanding of others.
This message is reinforced through discussions, assemblies, and team building exercises in PE and PSHE classes throughout the school.
Bullying is not tolerated, and students are taught about the many forms of bullying, the reasons why they could happen, and potential response options should they witness an incidence. Pupils are actively encouraged to make decisions while at school since they are in a secure and encouraging environment.
Through their child-initiated learning, Reception and Year 1 students demonstrate individual independence from an early age: Voices for Choices sessions further embed the characteristics of effective learning in Early Years and Key Stage 1 where the main focus is on metacognition and self-regulated learning, giving each child a voice and choice about their learning.
British Values are shared and discussed at weekly designated assembly times.
