The Old Library has stood for optimism in L13 since 1905.
This famous structure was funded by wealthy philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and presented to the people of Liverpool as a secure place for study. It served four generations as a beloved neighbourhood library before closing and falling into disrepair in 2006.
Local nonprofit Lister Steps recognised that The Old Library was a unique structure that was a vital part of our community's shared legacy, and in 2012, we began the arduous process of restoring it.
With cooperation from Liverpool City Council and funds from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we were able to renovate the structure and turn it into a multipurpose space for events, education, and entertainment.
We are happy to welcome you back through The Old Library's doors once they reopen and are proud to name it our new home.
