When I had my own two young children, I envisioned the educational system I would want for my sons.
One where they could feel confident and understood, where their individual learning preferences were taken into consideration, and where they could be motivated and given the knowledge and self-assurance they needed to succeed in school and in life.
a learning experience that was personalised for each student in the class rather than being intended for 20 or 30 pupils.
My hard-working, devoted coworkers were frustrated by the fact that there was never enough time to attend to everyone who needed them.
When I was a young teacher in a grammar school, I experienced hourly class changes.
Later in my academic career, after working in a wonderful comprehensive school and a good grammar school, where I contributed to the design and implementation of intricate, well-resourced cross-curricular schemes of work meant to develop the skills of students of all abilities, I moved into the independent school sector while, of course, continuing to tutor in the evenings and on weekends.
After only a few weeks at New Hall in Chelmsford, I was certain that this was the kind of school I wanted for my boys.
I cherished the outcomes my one-on-one students were obtaining.
What I truly wanted to do was teach.
I could instruct in my private practise and do it well.
The business needed to expand if I wanted to pursue this full-time.
After making this choice, it took me eight months for the company to expand to the point where it outpaced my school's salary.
I had both of my boys enrolled in reputable independent schools within a year.
The primary value that underpins my business is one of compassion, comprehension, and confidence-building.
