A Steiner Waldorf school is what?
The fundamental tenet of Steiner Waldorf education is that each child is seen as an original spiritual being who grows through changing stages of childhood and eventually matures into an adulthood in which the individual spirit can find complete freedom of expression.
Intimate links exist between the development of these faculties and the child's physical, emotional, and spiritual growth, and Steiner Waldorf education works to bridge these gaps.
This ability to imitate goes well beyond only mimicking bodily actions.
A young child develops an early understanding of the feeling of goodness in the world by detecting the moral character of each adult in each act.
Every person developing into the modern world needs this basis, which is often undermined by demands for early academic preparation.
Formal education doesn't start until the second seven years, when the child's physical development is fully established.
The focus here has shifted from imitation to imagination during the class instructor hour.
The instructor can particularly use these years to appeal to the child's sense of drama, beauty, and the arts.
The youngster increasingly gains an objective awareness of his surroundings, as well as a developing sense of his own creative soul.
The child evolves as an individual within this general framework of development, which is shared by all children.
These typical stages of child development are the foundation of the Steiner Waldorf curriculum, which is unique to this type of education.
To address both the children's general needs and the unique needs of each student in the class, each teacher applies creativity and sensitivity to the curriculum.
