About Us
There are over 500 Local Authority maintained Nursery Schools in England. However, Highfield is the only purpose built Local Authority maintained Nursery School in Suffolk. We are proud that Highfield has been deemed outstanding by OFSTED in the last two inspections. The nursery school was originally built in 1970 and has provided early years education in the local community since then. Many of our pupil's parents and carers have attended Highfield themselves in the past! We also welcome many new families.
Highfield Nursery School has no catchment area and all children are welcome. We now take children from the term after they are three and we can in exceptional circumstances take children in the term in which they turn three if they are already in receipt of Local Authority funding. Please ask if you are in receipt of benefits, and thus may be eligible for this early funding.
In the Nursery School we have part-time places for 156 children aged 3-4 years, which enables them to attend between 9am and 3pm each day. Two sessions run during this time:
9am - 12pm
12pm - 3pm
Breakfast club runs between 8am - 9am daily.
After school governor lead provision between 3pm - 6pm everyday except Wednesdays.
Most children have spent three terms at Highfield Nursery before going on to their reception classes at primary school, but occasionally we are able to offer four or even five full terms. The school's admission policy has been drawn up in line with the Local Authority guidelines. A copy of the policy can be obtained from the office manager.
