The 2014 EYFS is based on the Essential British Values in the Early Years guidance and already implicitly incorporates the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, respect for one another, and tolerance for people who practise various religions and beliefs (Foundation Years 2015).
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) fosters children's earliest abilities to help them develop into social citizens in an age-appropriate manner, which includes being able to listen and pay attention to directions, discern right from wrong, identify similarities and differences between themselves and others, form and maintain friendships, develop empathy and consideration for others, take turns during play and conversation, avoid risk, and be aware of their surroundings.
