After the birth of her first daughter in 2009, Sian Goodspeed founded Flying Start Tuition.
Sian spent more than twelve years as a primary school teacher before founding the business, working in both public and private institutions.
In order to better balance her passion of teaching with her commitment to her family, she sought a job, and so Flying Start Tuition was established.
Ten years later, Sian has a second daughter, and the business has significantly expanded in terms of both size and reputation.
Alistair, the husband, joined the team as a director in 2014, making the company really a family affair.
It has been a really steep learning curve, according to Sian.
This strategy is essential to the Flying Start ethos and supports the five basic principles of the business.
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), which Sian first learned about in 2010, has the potential to help kids become better learners.
Flying Start has rapidly expanded over the past 10 years and, following a number of location changes, currently has a primary tuition centre and head office in the heart of Chesham, in addition to satellite locations all around Buckinghamshire.
Thousands of kids (and their parents!) have been successfully led by the team over the past ten years through important tests like the Eleven Plus and GCSEs, as well as assisting many more to develop their reading and numeracy abilities and become self-assured, lifelong learners.
To make it easier for families with lesser means to attend our tuition programmes, we provide a variety of Flying Start bursaries and scholarships.
We actively participate in a number of neighbourhood causes in addition to providing financial aid for our students.

The Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust chose Flying Start Tuition in 2009 to provide instruction for a trailblazing nonprofit project that is now known as Tuition Plus.
In response to data that revealed children from lower income households faced significant disadvantages when taking the Eleven Plus, the initiative was developed.
Tuition Plus offers free tuition to year five students living in the Trusts residences as a way of redressing this imbalance.
