Cockermouth After School Scheme

A group of working parents who were having trouble finding affordable and adaptable daycare in the Cockermouth area founded the registered charity in Cockermouth in 1990. Bookings for the February half-term are now open; reserve your space in advance to prevent disappointment. We provide before- and after-school care for kids aged 4 and older, starting at 7.30 am, as well as care during school breaks for both working and non-working parents. From Cockermouth and the surrounding area, we have more than 130 families enrolled. Our management committee, which is made up of committed volunteers from a diverse cross-section of the community, meets once a month (at the bar) to talk about a variety of topics, such as fund-raising and entertaining events for the kids. Five people are employed by us to manage the programme. We are located at the Scout Centre in Cockermouth, which has a number of indoor rooms as well as a sizable, securely enclosed grassy/patio area to the back and a sizable adventure playground at the front. We encourage children to play freely within secure bounds and try to give them as much time outside as possible (weather allowing). At our sessions, there are some activities that are directed by adults, but kids are also allowed to use the equipment and activities at their leisure. Additionally, it gives kids an opportunity to experience a change of scenery from their typical school setting. We provide after-school care for four primary schools in the central Cockermouth region, which gives kids a great chance to meet new people and ensures that they will almost certainly have a larger group of friends when they enrol in secondary school.
