After almost a century of operation as a school, it rang its bell for the last time in 1976. It was used for a variety of small-scale purposes before finally falling into disrepair in 1992. The location was slated for destruction by 1995.
The old school was not wanted to be dismantled by the neighbourhood. They broke in, took over the structures, and established a brand-new company named the Burton Street Foundation.
They started organising a variety of clubs, activities, and community services right away, making excellent use of the website. This demonstrated the necessity for it to continue, and finally the Burton Street Foundation acquired the property.
Twenty years later, the stunning Victorian structures remain a thriving neighbourhood centre. Daily, hundreds of people visit the website, and a wide variety of activities take place.
Although Burton Street is a rather large organisation presently, it still operates on a non-profit basis and retains its core values. Its peculiar and distinctive qualities are due to this.

Every week, about 2500 users utilise the website for both business and leisure. Every year, we host various events. We have about 140 employees. 250 people use our disability services. The area is home to 14 local businesses, and each week, 35 charities and community organisations use our facilities.
We manage five buildings spread across three sites, and we have the biggest indoor community space in the region. Our primary office is in Hillsborough, Sheffield, but we also have a weekend retreat in Wales. We've been around since 1998 and operate as a Community Benefit Society (number 28699R), which means we operate on a non-profit basis.
