British values are developed and promoted throughout Sherburn Hungate Primary School as well as in the curriculum.
The DfE have reinforced the need to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Mutual respect and tolerance are shown for people of all faiths and beliefs, as well as for those who have neither.
In EYFS, we will encourage children to see their role in the bigger picture, encouraging children to know their views count, value each others views and values and talk about their feelings.
We have a school council that meets frequently to talk about concerns brought up at school.
In EYFS, Staff will ensure that children understand their own and others behaviour and its consequences, and learn to distinguish right from wrong.
Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken.
In EYFS, children will develop a positive sense of themselves.
There will be opportunities for children to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and increase their confidence in their own abilities.
At Sherburn Hungate, Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons.
Across school, within lessons, learning is personalised according to our childrens needs and abilities.
Through E-Safety, RE and PSHE, we educate children on their rights and personal freedoms as well as supporting them in recognising how to exercise these freedoms safely.
