From the YMCA Sefton Nursery
Just a few years after George Williams started the organisation, a YMCA was organised in Southport in 1852. Since the middle of the 1970s, Southport YMCA has operated at Hoghton Street as a recreation and sports centre, eventually incorporating a nursery.
The Trustees officially decided to change our name from YMCA Southport to YMCA Sefton on March 3, 2016, in order to better reflect our goals for working with children and young people not just in Southport but throughout the entire Borough of Sefton. Publicly, this started on September 2, 2016.
In order to form YMCA Liverpool & Sefton, YMCA Sefton and YMCA Liverpool amalgamated in April 2017.
The YMCA has contributed significantly to Southport's quality of life, therefore we are happy that the centre on Hoghton St. is now open and providing a variety of sports and activities in addition to our highly respected YMCA Sefton Nursery.
