We are pleased to provide a Specialized Resourced Provision for Deaf Children at Whitehall Primary School.
Currently, the school offers up to 6 childcare spots in addition to 16 seats for students in Reception to Year 6.
Every one of our students has an educational health care plan, with their primary area of need being a severe to profound hearing loss.
Four hearing support assistants who have completed BSL Level 2 or higher training.
Our BSL Communicator and Deaf role model teaches Deaf Identity sessions once a week to our deaf students in Key Stages 1 and 2, as well as BSL classes to the deaf students who use sign language at home or who want to study it in addition to spoken English.
Children who are deaf attend regular lessons alongside their hearing counterparts in a standard school.
To ensure that deaf students have full access to the learning environment and the National Curriculum, Instructors of the Deaf collaborate closely with classroom teachers.
Regardless of their hearing loss, communication and language development are crucial for all deaf children, thus we take a child-centered approach that is suitable for each child's needs.
A written profile or student passport is available for each kid in the Deaf Provision.
Every week, a licenced speech and language therapist with expertise working with deaf kids provides weekly speech and language therapy to all of our students from Nursery to Year 6.
We want to build strong bonds with families and invite parents to get in touch with us if they or their kids are concerned.
We invite parents and caregivers to coffee mornings every term.
We provide information about activities taking place at school, discuss ways in which parents may assist their children's learning, and provide a calm, informal setting for them to meet us, the head teacher, and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).
For the children to develop, advance, and be happy is always our goal.
