According to section 22 (1) of the Children Act 1989, a child who is in a local authority's custody or who is receiving housing from a local authority is considered to be "looked after."
According to the 2021 School Admissions Code (the Code), adopted children who appear to have previously been in state care outside of England must receive equal first priority in admissions decisions with looked-after children (LAC) and children who were previously in state care provided by English local authorities (PLAC).
In-year applications should be sent directly to the institution if they are being considered outside of the regular admissions period.
On receipt of an in-year application, the school will notify the local authority of both the application and its outcome, to allow the local authority to keep up to date with figures on the availability of school places in Birmingham.
According to locally established regulations, the Governing Body of Broadway Academy is dedicated to accepting its fair share of students who are at risk and/or difficult to place.
