Children two to school age can grow and learn through play in our welcoming and nurturing environment.
In 2018, Ofsted gave our fully certified staff members a Good rating, and we work to foster the ideal environment for your child's growth.
The voluntary committee that oversees Sutton St. James Playgroup is primarily composed of parents.
The parent information board and our website both list the term dates for the 38 weeks that Sutton St. James Playgroup is open each year.
We provide subsidised places for 3 and 4 year olds since we are registered with Ofsted and receive the Early Years Educational Entitlement.
The pre-school will submit an application on your behalf for your child's financing the entire term after their third birthday.
In order to enhance the learning of the children, we also encourage our staff to pursue their interests and participate in training sessions throughout the year in a variety of subjects. This information is then shared with other staff members during staff meetings.
The following employees have successfully completed training in the following areas in the academic years 2020–2021.
The Sutton St. James Pre-School Playgroup was established at Easter 1970, with Pat Frost serving as Marilyn Coleman's assistant and Coleman serving as the playgroup leader.
A group of moms and dads worked together to transform and furnish the Playgroup's first residence, a big farmhouse kitchen in Rookery Farm.
We lived here for ten years.
Following a celebration for previous and present families in Memorial Hall in Whaplode St. Catherine to mark the playgroup's tenth anniversary, it was decided to relocate.
A second relocation took place in April 1988, this time to the Horsa Unit at Sutton St. James Primary School.
Unfortunately, in 1994, the Horsa Unit was destroyed, forcing the playgroup to relocate once more, this time to the Church Hall in Sutton St. James.
In 1995, a gathering at Sutton St Edmund Village Hall was held to honour our 25th wedding anniversary with our families and friends.
It was agreed in 1999 to gather money for our own playgroup unit, which would be situated on the grounds of Sutton St. James Primary School.
In January 2001, the brand-new playgroup unit opened. A fantastic accomplishment for all parties involved.
Marilyn fell unwell over the Easter break in April 2002 and sadly passed away two months later.
She had served as our leader for 32 years.
In her honour, a bench and sensory garden for kids were erected.
After Joan Chamberlain retired in December 2002, Alison Brookes joined us as our Deputy Leader and took over as playgroup leader with Claire Ball as her deputy.
The Playgroup Leader position was filled by Sarah Melton in February 2008 after Claire departed from her position. Helen and Sherri Adams both provided assistance.
