At Surrey Square, we think that through imparting values and skills and providing positive role models, kids may excel on a personal level.
In place of school rules, our 6 core values—responsibility, respect, enjoyment, community, perseverance, and compassion—drive and shape every element of school life.
When students arrive at school unable to read or write, we do everything in our ability to guarantee they develop those abilities using our professional knowledge, experience, love, and passion. We do not criticise or become upset with the students.
Therefore, why should it be any different if the youngster needs to acquire acceptable adult speech or self-control techniques when they are sad or embarrassed?
In the most basic sense, shouldn't it be our responsibility as teachers to teach kids manners if they don't already know them?
But are we saying that we have arrived only when children dont misbehave?
Children must learn appropriate behaviour in order to mature. [
Making wise decisions is more important than adhering to the rules.
The key distinction between our approach to values-based learning and rules is that while values provide a set of aspirational guidelines within which students must choose the appropriate behaviour in any context (e.g., how do I need to move around the school if I am taking responsibility for myself and others? ), rules prescribe a set of appropriate/inappropriate context-specific behaviours (e.g., walk in the corridors).
One of our basic values inspired our parents and caregivers to create a video.
Our staff members are so committed to the significance of this principle that they wrote a song and made a video to encourage the kids and emphasise the idea that persistence is an essential life skill.
