From the Sunshine Corner Pre-School
Bright Corner Pre-school began as a mother and toddler group in the village hall in the early 1970s.
Sunshine Corner has continued has evolve and is now the flourishing pre-school you see today.
We still hold a baby and toddler group which is held every Thursday morning during term time.
We accept children from two to five years of age and we are open between 9am and 3.30pm every weekday during the term time.
Two to three year old children attend for three hour sessions (usually in the afternoons) until the term after their third birthday.
Our pre-school is registered with Ofsted to take 26 children in each session.
Starting Pre-school is a big step for both parents and children.
A child who is nervous or unhappy will not be able to play or learn properly, so it is important for parents and pre-school staff to work together to help the child to feel confident and secure in the group.
It is however, usually the case that if your child cries or clings to you when they first arrive by the time you have got to the end of the road they are happily playing and getting involved with the days activities.
We also use a keyworker system within the pre-school.
The keyworker is in a position to tailor the group's curriculum to the unique needs of each individual child.
For the older children our day begins with registration.
We have a theme running though each term which leads in to all aspects of the curriculum and the children are encouraged to bring in any relevant items relating to this theme.
This is our 'showing' and 'sharing' time, where the children can bring in something special to show everyone.
Supervised free play then follows where a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities are offered aiding all aspects of child development.
This is "quiet time", story time followed by nursery rhymes and songs, or music and movement.
During these sessions we hope to expose the children to many experiences which Will aid their development in all areas, for instance: recognition of colours, shapes, Number and letters, how to use pencils, crayons, paint brushes, simple music and movement, the identification of everyday objects, which they can name, match or select.
But most importantly, we aim to help the children become sociable, confident, independent and happy with themselves and others.
