At Priesthills Nurseries, we firmly believe that kids are born with a desire to learn and that an adult's job is to encourage this natural learning process rather than to instruct in the more conventional sense.
With unfettered access to limitless materials and unrestricted outdoor access, we have created an environment where kids are free to learn on their own schedule and in their own way.
Through loose parts play, on-the-fly planning, and focus weeks, we hope to achieve this.
At Priesthills Nursery, we use a planning method known as "In the Moment Planning" (ITMP).
In-the-moment planning frees up time that practitioners would have otherwise spent recording and planning, allowing them to spend more time actively engaging with children. This reduces the likelihood that we will miss moments of fascination and enables us to engage with children about their interests in the here and now in a more meaningful way.
We regularly work with all children on their learning and development while employing in-the-moment planning.
Instead, we designate one child as the spotlight child for each term, at least for one week.
You will be required to fill out a form before to your child's focus week so that you may participate in the evaluation of your child's learning and development.
All of the teachers in your child's classroom will devote time to your child's learning and growth during their focus week.
All of the educators in the room will gather at the conclusion of your child's focus week to evaluate their level of progress across all subject areas.
The next step is to integrate observations into your kid's learning experience. These observations will include photos and videos of your child taken throughout the week, a photo of their focus week sheet, and some longer observations in the text part.
The management team will then moderate this observation before releasing it to you (this process may create a slight delay in the observation's release).
The possibilities are endless and there are no restrictions with loose pieces.
They need chances to grow a sense of ownership over their playing space.
Children are more likely to engage in these behaviours even in artificial surroundings, whether inside or outside, when loose parts are included, such as discarded materials, sand, and water.
Children learn best when given the freedom to play.
Along with toys, they should be allowed to use actual resources in their play.
With these methods, playing with a variety of loose components is helpful.
