A Management Committee is essential to the operation of the preschool.
When your child joins Pippins you automatically become a Family Member of the charity.
You may also run for election to the Management Committee if you are a Family Member.
A great approach to participate in your child's education and shape the preschool is to join the Management Committee.
To join the Management Committee, you don't need any prior committee experience.
About six times a year, the Management Committee gathers for committee meetings where it conducts business and hears reports from the preschool manager on topics like safeguarding and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These topics include finances, staffing, fundraising, communications with Icknield School, our landlord, training, and future plans and visions.
The committee members cast their votes for the chair(s), secretary, and treasurer after the committee is established.
A Committee Member may, once more, run for reelection to one of the officer posts.
The following officer positions, whose descriptions are based on advice from the Early Years Alliance, must be completed in order for the preschool to operate under Charity Commission regulations.
to represent the trustees, arrange charity meetings, and supervise the preschool manager on a day-to-day basis.
The preschool requires a minimum of two additional members of the Management Committee in addition to the three officer seats.
Do get in touch at any point if you would like further information about becoming a committee member.
Since I joined the Pippins Preschool Committee four years ago, both of my kids have benefited from the outstanding care and instruction the Pippins staff offers.
Being a member of the committee has allowed me to have a voice in how the preschool has changed over the years, how it challenges itself, and how it makes sure it is providing the greatest services to the kids, parents, and amazing staff team.
Additionally, it has been a wonderful chance to network with other parents whose kids attend Pippins and collaborate on projects ranging from fundraising for Pippins to collaborating with the nearby Icknield Primary School.
Just to reassure anyone considering joining the committee and I would definitely recommend doing so its not a huge demand on your time and every minute you can contribute makes a huge difference.
There are opportunities to take on more responsibility (as the Chairperson or Co-Chairperson), or less if you only want to be involved in the fundraising, for instance. I've been involved as a committee member and more recently as the Treasurer, but there are also opportunities to take on less responsibility.
Again, I can't stress how much I suggest joining the committee and invite anyone with an interest to attend the AGM to learn more.
Peter Enright.
