Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) is an awards programme supported and recognised accomplishments in child development, welfare, and health in early years settings. It is financed by the Mayor of London.
Building on the success of Healthy Schools London, HEYL will support a good start to life across themes that include healthy food, oral and physical health, and early cognitive development. This will assist to eliminate health inequalities.
The statutory Early Years Foundation Stage framework is enhanced and complemented by HEYL, which adds to the emphasis on the health and wellbeing of children, families, and staff.
While assisting children in getting ready for school, early childhood settings can create the groundwork for long-term health and wellbeing.
In the first year of school, roughly one in five students is overweight or obese.
In London, one in four five-year-olds have decayed teeth.
Every London child will benefit from a healthy start in life thanks to HEYL's support of the Mayor's future Health Inequalities Strategy, which will also help reduce child obesity and enhance healthy life expectancy.
