We used to live in Madison, Wisconsin, and we adored every aspect of that city. Well, practically everything was there during that exceptionally lengthy and chilly winter. When we lived there, our children were still very young (the oldest was four and was four, and the twins were two), and although we frequently played outside in the snow, there were some days I couldn't stand the hassle of getting everyone dressed in snow gear only to have to come back inside fifteen minutes later when someone needed the restroom. Although there are probably kid-friendly museums and exhibitions, indoor playgrounds, and kid-friendly classes and events in your area where families may seek shelter from inclement weather, there are times when staying in can be just as enjoyable if you know the appropriate games. Sometimes all I wanted was an easy way to occupy my children during those long winter days and keep myself sane. It can be challenging to keep everyone entertained when kids are forced indoors due to rain or chilly weather.
Encourage your child to develop a talent for architecture! Visit your child's favourite playground and determine what they like best about it. Which piece of equipment does he prefer using? Can he come up with a fresh kind of slide? What could spice up the playground more? Use these encounters and discussions to motivate him to create a unique jungle gym or swing set. Have him draw diagrams on graph paper to begin.
Use these encounters and discussions to motivate him to create a unique jungle gym or swing set. Start with graph paper and ask him to draw blueprints and diagrams that show exactly where each piece of equipment will go. Then, using straws, cardboard, toilet paper, and paper towel rolls, make a visual representation.
