In Handsworth, Nishkam Nursery is located on the busy Soho Road, which connects to the heart of Birmingham. Handsworth used to be one of Birmingham's most impoverished neighbourhoods, however it is currently undergoing regeneration. For 50 weeks out of the year, from 8 am to 6 pm, Nishkam Nursery offers multi-agency, religious childcare services to families with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. For kids up to age 8, the Nursery also hosts before- and after-school clubs. A primary school, a secondary school, two churches, a gurdwara, some residential structures, grocery stores, and lovely flora surround the nursery. The Nursery, a grade 2 listed structure, used to be a community day nursery and belonged to Birmingham City Council. There are 71 children registered at Nishkam Nursery, which includes baby rooms, toddler rooms, pre-schools, and a safe outdoor play area for all kids.
