A new draught framework for inspecting the SEND services for children and young people is presented in a consultation from Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission.
A consultation on new ideas for a collaborative framework for inspecting services for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) in a local area has been been published by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Early in 2023, the new inspections will be implemented.
Visit the children and young people's version of the consultation or read the draught SEND inspection framework and provide feedback on our suggested improvements.
The experiences and results of children and young people with SEND will be the main emphasis of the new framework.
The suggestions widen the inspection's scope so that it now considers not just whether local area partnerships are identifying and addressing the needs of children and young people with SEND, but also how doing so may be affecting those individuals' outcomes and quality of life.
introducing 3 separate inspection outcomes and a continuous cycle of inspections.
By conducting monitoring inspections and/or early re-inspections, Ofsted can improve its response when there are issues.
encouraging everyone to continuously improve by demanding visible action plans after thorough inspections.
Inspections will also examine how local authorities commission, use, and monitor alternative provision for children, the majority of whom have SEND.
In order for inspectors to have a thorough understanding of what it's like to be a child or young person with SEND in any local area in England, there will be a greater push to gather evidence directly from children and young people with SEND and their families, as well as from area leaders, practitioners, and settings.
The consultation is one of many engagement initiatives that Ofsted and CQC will do with the sector, kids and young people, parents, and carers. It will run from now through September 11.
Although the past two years have been difficult for all of us, the pandemic was especially difficult on the most vulnerable members of society.
