On August 12, 1979, a group of friends founded the Bangladesh Youth League (BYL), which has since been based in a variety of locations.
BYL was able to purchase the abandoned industrial land that would become the Center for Youth and Community Development in 1995 thanks to a winning lottery offer (CYCD).
On July 6, 2012, CYCD made another significant advancement with the launch of their brand-new Centre McKenzie House on Leagrave Road.
The organization's sponsor, Lord McKenzie of Luton, who played a significant role in establishing CYCD in its current form more than 20 years ago, officially opened it.
A community centre run for the benefit of EVERYONE in the area is called the Center for Youth and Community Development (CYCD).
The Center offers essential services including child care and feeding the elderly, as well as educational programmes and recreational activities for young people from impoverished backgrounds.
The Center is a crucial resource for the elderly, the underprivileged, the disabled, and the children and is truly in the centre of the neighbourhood.
