In the centre of Waterbeach, Herons' Preschool is housed in a recently renovated structure at the entrance to the former army barracks.
It is a community-based nonprofit preschool that once ran out of a portacabin on the grounds of Hatley Court, a residential care facility for the elderly, under the name Waterbeach Toddler Playgroup.
We finally found a building on the site of a former army barracks after years of searching and labour from numerous committees and staff members. With the help of the builders Urban and Civic and the County Council, as well as several grants, the building was converted into an excellent preschool facility with two spacious rooms, modern amenities, and a beautiful outdoor space.
Since September 2004, Wayne has served as the playgroup leader at the facility, where he has worked since 2003.
Wayne has both a Level 4 NVQ in Children's Care, Learning and Development and a Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education (NNEB).
In September 2020, Angela will join our staff as the newest member.
In 2017, Diane joined the group.
Since 1997, Lesley has been a member of the staff.
Hannah joined the group in January 2022 and has served as the management committee's chair before.
We officially changed our name from Waterbeach Toddler Playgroup to Herons' Preschool Waterbeach on March 7, 2022, when we started operating as a Charitable Incorporated Organization (CIO).
The Trustees are in charge of managing the preschool, determining tuition rates, and fundraising. They meet at least twice a year.
It is a fantastic chance to meet other parents and get engaged in your child's preschool experience.
New parent members are able to join at any point during the year, but the trustees are always re-elected at the AGM.
