The essential British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect for people of all religions and beliefs are something we are dedicated to promoting at Minsthorpe. When political matters are brought up in class, we make every effort to present students with a variety of opposing viewpoints in a fair and balanced manner.
As a community institution, we acknowledge that the United Kingdom is a multicultural and multifaith country and that our schools and colleges must play a critical role in advancing these ideals. Many parts of college life, such as assemblies, student council, student ambassadors, Helping Hands, whole college policy, and our SMSC programme, are examples of how we go about doing this. However, we do make sure that our curriculum actively promotes essential British values by, whenever possible, adopting a more holistic approach rather than focusing on specific subjects.
The improvement of the character qualities that will aid kids in succeeding is another addition to our programme. All students are exposed to the Character Curriculum primarily through the promotion and development of the 6Rs (Responsible, Reflective, Respect, Resilience, Resourceful, and Reasoning) throughout the institution. We think that by instilling these character traits in our pupils, we will not only assist them in acquiring a growth mindset but also in preparing them for both the workplace and adult life.
If you believe the institution is not upholding its commitment, get in touch with Enquiries and ask to speak with the Principal about your concerns.
Likewise, you should inform the Principal if you believe that any college employee is actively undermining our values or doing so in another way.
