From the Fernheath Play
A traditional play area with permanent wooden play equipment is not an adventure playground. Children may enter and exit the facility whenever they want, and it is staffed. They can design and construct their own playthings, alter their surroundings to suit their needs, and engage in a variety of activities, such as playing with earth, air, fire, and water. The lack of natural play areas for kids in our modern society is made up for by adventure playgrounds. They offer a location, supplies, tools, and adaptable, unobtrusive adult supervision. Most significantly, they give kids freedom of choice, the chance to experiment, collaborate, and work with materials while also giving them room for imagination and creativity. Children can play freely and at their own pace on an adventure playground, where they can also discover the pure thrill of independence. They are by definition settings where kids can be themselves. Children can face and take risks at adventure playgrounds while being watched carefully by a Playworker. Although they may appear to the uninitiated to be disorganised, messy, unstructured, cluttered, or even chaotic, their accident rates are minimal when compared to other play environments.
