From the Bosco Nursery
A post-16 vocational college, a nursery, and a youth club are all housed in The Bosco Centre, which is situated at the eastern end of Jamaica Road. Our unwavering dedication to bettering the lives of local youth is at the core of everything we do. The efforts of one person have developed into this commitment and passion. a person who was raised in Bermondsey but was born in the west of Scotland. It was unexpected for Sister Cecily Dunn to arrive at Rotherhithe. She was forced to flee Liverpool quickly as the city's drug dealers were enraged by her unwavering commitment to helping young people and realised that she was driving away their patrons. She would be known for the rest of her life for her capacity to cause trouble for the benefit of young people. Sister Cecily adhered to the teachings of St. John Bosco, a dynamic disruptor who, two centuries previously, had agitated for the rights of youth. He lived and worked in Turin, where he witnessed firsthand how industrialization and urbanisation affected the ignorant street kids and how frequently these kids ended up in jail. One of the pioneers in properly appreciating the value of a vocational education was St. John Bosco, who also created an educational philosophy centred on love rather than punishment. All of Sister Cecily's writings were based on this principle, which is still the cornerstone of everything we do today.
