From the Bearhugs Nurseries Ltd
Sonia Elton, the owner of Bearhugs, started the business in 2011 after taking over a small council-run creche where her kids Eddie and Henry were enrolled.
The council planned to close this facility, but Sonia felt it would be such a loss if she didn't invest in keeping it running. The nursery was located at the former Horncastle College.
Sonia was put off by bigger nurseries and sort a smaller place where her sons would be safe and cared for and get plenty of attention, she felt it was important to know each member of staff and that they would know her boys.
Bearhugs continued to grow, and Tattershall soon welcomed a second location.
Sonia made an investment in the current structure, Phoenix Lodge, South Street, Horncastle, in 2016, after the council threatened to sell the college site.
Sonia designed both nurseries to feel like family homes while undergoing major renovations to meet commercial standards.
The number of kids gradually grows as they become older and go on to the next rooms, preparing them for the next phases of life and making them ready for school.
Both nurseries are managed by experienced managers who are assisted by a team of qualified employees. Apprentices receive training at the nurseries and many remain to advance their careers there.
Sonia has always been eager to hire workers with diverse backgrounds and ages, especially those who are parents.
Staff development is a top priority, and many employees pursue degrees in early childhood education while working in the setting.
Bearhugs has maintained its "home from home" atmosphere as the business has expanded, fostering kids in a loving setting. Sonia's ethos has remained the same and will do so moving forward.
