From the Calder High School, The Calder Learning Trust
Since it initially opened its doors in January 1950, Calder High School has had a special place in Yorkshire education history. When the school first opened, it served about 350 kids, a significant difference from the 1,500 students and staff who attend and work here today. With Brooksbank Sports College and Calderdale Local Authority, Calder High School is now a Co-operative Trust School in The Calder Learning Trust. We are located in the village of Mytholmroyd, six miles west of Halifax, in the heart of Pennine Yorkshire. The school serves the Calder Valley, which stretches from Halifax to Hebden Bridge and the edges of Todmorden, to Luddenfoot, Mytholmroyd, and beyond. The famed Ted Hughes Theatre, which was inaugurated by the poet's widow, Carol Hughes, in 2007, is lucky to be located at Calder High School. It is a well-liked location for school and neighbourhood events, and it is how the school won the renowned Artsmark Gold award. To honour our literary tradition and Ted Hughes' link to Mytholmroyd and the school, the school has been decked with poetry quotes. Our goal for students in Years 7 through 13 is for them to develop into articulate, self-assured, and confident young adults who are supported both within and outside of the classroom and take use of the incredible variety of activities offered at Calder High School. These consist of expressive arts activities, sporting events, and camps with the Outward Bound Trust.
